Belizean Man Alleges Police Interference with Court Judgments

A Belizean man is alleging interference by the Police when it comes to orders from the court.  The man called into The Morning Show today saying that he had won a civil matter in court, and that despite several attempts to collect monies owed to him by the defendant, the Police are claiming that they cannot locate the defendant.  The caller further asserted that he defendant is seen every day working as a traffic officer in Orange Walk Town.  He is now calling on the Police and the relevant authorities to put a stop to police’s interference when it comes to judgements from the court.

Caller: “I did have a civil matter with one former Lance Officer now that works with traffic department up in Orange Walk and I won my case. I got a committal warrant for him, which I personally picked up from one station in the West took it to Orange Walk police station and I delivered the committal warrant at the police station there. The person was being picked up. I don’t think when the court system gives the committal warrant like that, the police shouldn’t have the individual try to contact, in my case, it was me to like make an agreement. He should have been detained and then locked up and follow the procedure of the commital warrant, which we will ask to go to court. Right. -“

Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: You sued somebody and you won the case?

Caller: “That’s correct. They gave him time to pay. It was like three rounds and he never did so then the committal warrant came in. Three different times he was supposed to appear to court and then, you know, eventually, which after I won the case and then the judge, you know what, this is it. And then, so I got the committal warrant to serve to him.”

Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: And he’s supposed to pay you what he owed you ?

Caller: “At a certain period of time.”

Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: Right. Exactly. Yeah.

Caller: “And that never happened. He would have been picked up and now it’s been over a month where he still haven’t fulfilled what was on the committal warrant and now I did call the police station again they said, oh they don’t know if he’s still there, if he left, but the person is still working at the traffic department in Orange Walk. The judicial system is very, you know, I think something really needs to get done, man. This is not right. This is not only happening to me, it’s probably happening to a lot of people.”

Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: So it seems like the cops are going easy on him?

Caller: “That’s what I’m saying. All my calls are recorded because I was about to go to the media to bring this up to, you know, maybe bring it up to the news.”

Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: Have you approached the top cop in your area, the commander?

Caller: “He was the top cop.”

Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: Oh, he was the top cop.

Caller: “Yeah.”

Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: Oh, so he used to, so that’s why you think they’re giving some. favorable treatment. Who’s the top cop now?

Caller: “So now I guess I have to go to the commissioner.”
