Belizean Man Fined for Drug Trafficking, Given Deadline for Payment

A Belize City man was fined over seven thousand dollars in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, after pleading guilty to drug trafficking. Thirty-five-year-old Dale Saragoza, in the presence of his attorney Oscar Selgado, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another with respect to sixteen point six pounds of marijuana. The Magistrate considered the fact that he was a first offender and refrained from fining him the prescribed ten thousand dollars. He was instead fined seven thousand five hundred dollars and given until December 29 to pay or he will face a year and three months in prison. The charge stems back from a bust on May 15, 2020, where police found the marijuana under a bed in Saragoza’s home during a search.
