Belizean Man Sentenced to Six Months in Prison for Bicycle Theft

Fifty-seven-year-old Marlon Blease has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing a bicycle bought for fifteen dollars at a police auction. Blease appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with a single count of theft to begin trial. However, he changed his not guilty plea to guilty and begged the court to give him a fine. The Magistrate took into consideration that Blease had four previous convictions for theft and said that a fine was not appropriate. His sentence was to take effect from his arraignment in July, leaving him with four more months to complete his sentence.
