Belizean professionals within the maritime sector will now have greater access to education and training through a new memorandum of understanding with the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) in Jamaica. The Belize Port Authority signed the MOU yesterday, which will see scholarships provided to Belizeans to attend the prestigious university. Acting Ports Commissioner Kaylon Young says the BPA will launch awareness campaigns to encourage professionals to take advantage of the opportunities and inform students of the benefits of a career in the maritime sector.
President of the CMU, Professor Andrew Spencer, explained that the scholarships will be provided through the Caribbean Maritime Foundation, drastically reducing the cost to Belizeans.
The MOU was signed during the International Maritime Organization’s two-day workshop in Belize which deals with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector.
