Belizean youths to attend World Youth Day in Portugal at the invitation of Pope Francis.

A delegation of ten Belizean youths will be headed to Lisbon, Portugal next month for the 2023 celebration of World Youth Day. The event, which is held at the invitation of His Holiness Pope Francis, will run from Tuesday August 1 to Sunday August 6. This week Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and Religious Affairs Henry Charles Usher, met with the delegation to congratulate them on the opportunity. Usher met with the youths on Thursday in Belmopan, to discuss with them the significance of their attendance at the global event, as well as the unique opportunity to be in the presence of the Pope. The delegates also shared their hopes of obtaining value insight and establishing international friendships by attending the event. World youth Day is an event held at the invitation of the Pope, which brings together youths of Catholic and other Christian denominations from around the world for knowledge sharing and fostering solidarity between youths. The event is being observed under the theme “Mary arose and went with haste,” a scripture taken from the Book of St. Luke. In his message to the delegates that will be attending the World Youth Day activities, Pope Francis said quote “In these troubling times, when our human family, already tested by the trauma of the pandemic, is racked by the tragedy of war, Mary shows to all of us, and especially to you, young people like herself, the path of proximity and encounter,” end of quote.
