Belize now has its first female acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Belize. Justice Michelle Arana was sworn in today by Governor General H.E. Sir Colville Young at the Belize House in Belmopan City. Here is a snippet of that ceremony.
Justice Arana attended the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica. She also holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in English and Masters of Law Degree in Commercial Law. She has held positions such as Magistrate, Crown Counsel in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Legal advisor to the Social Investment Fund and Registrar General of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in Belize. She has lectured in Business Law at the University of Belize. Justice Arana was confirmed as a Justice of Supreme Court of Belize in 2006. She is Belize’s first appointed female judge.
