Belize’s First STEAM Secondary School Set to Open with 75 Students

In less than a month, Belize’s first secondary school dedicated to STEAM education, an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, will open its doors. The Itz’at STEAM Academy is slated to launch at the end of this month with a cohort of 75 students. The secondary school will feature a modern science lab, a digital media studio, and a maker space to prepare students for careers and further studies in the area of STEAM. Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, says the work is being finalized and provided an update on the school.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education: “There we are focused on STEAM education. Again technology, driving education. Yes we are on track as you know the STEAM ITZAT Academy is supposed to open at the end of August. So we are on track with that and we look forward to that opening and welcoming our first intake of students. I think this first intake will be about 70 students and then we’ll build on that for future years.”
