Belize’s High Court has granted permission to Reef Village Development II Limited to seek judicial review against the Government of Belize. Love News understands that the government, through the Ministry of Natural Resources, was carrying out a compulsory acquisition of a parcel of land on Ambergris Caye, belonging to Reef Village. The complainant filed an application in the courts, but it was reportedly done outside the 3-month time limit. Despite the time factor, however, the court granted the request on the grounds that Reef Village appear to have an arguable case with a realistic prospect of success. The complainant has based his complaint on the premise that the government has violated the Land Acquisition (Public Purposes) Act. Reef Village Development II Ltd. was being represented by Senior Counsel Dean Barrow and Adler Waight.
