Belize’s “Lionfish Woman” to Compete in International Tournament

Dianny Henriquez; she has been dubbed Belize’s Lionfish Woman, and this year she will be representing Belize at the 2023 International Lionfish Tournament. The tournament dubbed the “Emerald Coast Open” is being held in the US state of Florida, where the invasive species were first detected in the waters of the western Atlantic region. Henriquez is the president of the Belize Lionfish Jewelry Group (Be-Lioness) and has been working to control the species’ population in Belize for eight years. Today, she explained the importance of participating in the event and how it will benefit her group’s effort.
