Belize’s ‘Resilient Bold Belize’ Project Aims to Raise Over $160 Million for Marine Conservation and Climate Resilience

Under the Blue Bond initiative, the government is moving to establish a Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiative expected to raise over one hundred and sixty million dollars. The project dubbed “Resilient Bold Belize” seeks to establish long-term conservation of Belize´s marine and coastal ecosystems and promote nature-based livelihoods for Belizean coastal communities. The venture is being undertaken by GOB and the World Wildlife Fund and is expected to be signed next year. Prime Minister John Briceno says the funds will be allocated to various NGOs and communities to build climate resiliency and improve climate adaptation.

While the project is being finalized, Beverly Wade, Director of the Blue Bond and Project Finance for Permanence Unit, says it is already being leveraged to support local NGOs and small businesses.

The venture is expected to be finalized in 2025.
