Belmopan Family Targeted by Thieves Demanding Ransom for Stolen Pickup Truck

A set of thieves in the west is allegedly attempting to extort a Belmopan family after stealing their pickup truck. In January, a 2018 Toyota Tacoma was stolen from a family in the Las Flores area. The family put out a five-thousand-dollar reward for information relating to the vehicle theft, but say they were contacted by persons who stole their truck. The crooks are allegedly demanding ten thousand dollars from the family in exchange for returning their pickup. Today, Police Commissioner Williams weighed in on the reports.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I’m not familiar with the extortion. I am aware yes that there is a report of the Tacoma being stolen and police are following that through and I would like to say to the persons who are the victims here that if is it is that they’re being extorted by those who may have stolen the Tacoma for them to please go to the police and make a report and we’re going to look into it.”

If you have any information relating to the incident, you are asked to call the police.
