The Belmopan City Council is looking to cancel land titles for dozens of persons if they do not pay an additional eighteen thousand dollars. Letters have been sent out from the council to these land owners who have already been given land titles by the Lands Department. Between the period July 2021 and March 2024, these parcels of land were given away under Belmopan’s previous mayor, Sheran Palacio. The lands are located in the development known as Innovabel Estate with each parcels measuring 530 square meters. The letters dated, September 3, has essentially given the recipients 30 days to accept the new cost prices or have the land transferred to someone else. One recipient reached out to our newsroom with all his documents including a receipt for two thousand dollars that he paid to acquire the land. We join News Director, Renee Trujillo for this story.
One source indicated to our newsroom late this evening that some of the documents pertaining to these land parcels may have been falsified. This, according to our source, has led to the termination of several workers at the Belmopan City Council. We will keep following this story as we seek comment from Mayor Pablo Cawich./
