Belmopan Police have charged 28-year-old Lorenzo Santiago in connection with the 2022 murder of 16-year-old Daniel Gutierrez. The incident took place in April of 2022, when Gutierrez’s body was discovered on April 11 in a drain near the cemetery on San Martin Road. Authorities had then revealed that the teenager had been stabbed multiple times. Gutierrez had been reported missing by his family a day before his body was found after he failed to return home. Though the young man wasn’t known for any criminal activities, in 2022 his father expressed concerns that his son’s rebellion may have led to conflicts with dangerous individuals. Love news caught up with the father, Oswaldo Gutierrez, on what it feels like to finally get an arrest on the murder of his son. To our surprise, Gutierrez noted that over the past two years, they have not been kept updated with the matter.
Oswaldo Gutierrez, Father of Deceased: “I don’t really have time to listen to the news so my neighbor she told me. I don’t really know about that because I asked his mom and she said someone told her that they caught the person but I don’t really know about that. I don’t have any communication with anybody that would know about that. Yeah in a way I feel good because they caught the person, I don’t know how true it is or if it’s the correct person or how they did it or maybe he turned himself in I don’t know what happened. I just really can’t say anything. I can only say that yes I feel good. That time when it happened police didn’t talk to me at all, up to now police haven’t talked to me about that. I am the one that went to make a report that he was missing but they never told me anything.”
Santiago has been formally arrested and will be charged later this week.
