Belmopan Man Dies in Hummingbird Highway Crash

A 28-year-old Belmopan resident died following a crash on the Hummingbird Highway yesterday afternoon. Police identified the victim as Chad Borland. Officers responded around four o’clock to reports of an accident near La Cabana Bar, just beyond Wooden Street in Belmopan. At the scene, they found Jeffrey Perez with an apparent injury to the back of his head. Police followed a trail of vehicle debris into thick bushes, where they found a black Mazda with extensive damage. Borland was found motionless on the ground beside the vehicle. His body was taken to the Western Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at five-twenty that evening.  Preliminary police findings indicate that the vehicle was travelling from the direction of the roundabout toward Armenia when it left the highway and went approximately one hundred and fifty feet into the bushes.  Police are seeking statements from Perez and Borland’s sister, who identified his body. Investigators also intend to review surveillance footage from La Cabana Bar. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
