Belmopan Mayor Sharon Palacio says she’s running for re-election

Belmopan Mayor, Sharon Palacio, says she will not be a one-time hit wonder.  When asked if she will seek re-election come March 2024.  Here is how she responded when our correspondent met up with her yesterday evening.

Sheeran “Sharon” Palacio, Mayor of Belmopan: “No it will never be one term for me and I will not go ahead and say exactly what it’s gonna be but when it comes to my participation it cannot end here.”

Reporter: So the Belmopan people can expect you to run again for Mayor ?

Sheeran “Sharon” Palacio, Mayor of Belmopan: “If you want me to say yes I’ll say yes with confidence. In all fairness to Honorable Mira we really haven’t sat down to say we’re doing this or we’re doing that so what you said he said it’s not a lie I haven’t really sat with him and I’m gonna sit with him and when you occupy such a seat you’re on the move you don’t really have time to be thinking next year for example you know that you’re doing a wonderful job no matter what under the circumstances and there’s no way Palacio can stay as just a one term woman. Hell no.”

Mayor Palacio went on to speak on the challenges she faced during her first term, including opposition from her own councilors.

Sheeran “Sharon” Palacio, Mayor of Belmopan: “When it comes to the initial stage that is normal. You call that storming process even between couples such things happen and as we get to know each other there’s a lot of things that could have happened but under excellent leadership and I’m not over exaggerating I am a born leader and my role is to live under love and forgiveness so I hold nothing against anyone and this has been bestowed upon me. I thank the Honorable Mira because it is through him that I really and truly got involved. I wanted him to win and as a result he blessed me with where I’m at right now and I thank God and I continue to work hard and you know that LJ first hand.”

Reporter: So you expect all the councilors to run again ?

Sheeran “Sharon” Palacio, Mayor of Belmopan: Well you’re saying that somebody said, I don’t know but whosoever wants to run as I said my door is wide open and if you want to run you can come along as well.”
