Belmopan Municipal Slate Elected at Convention

Belmopan Municipal Slate Elected at Convention

The Belmopan slate for the upcoming municipal elections was duly elected yesterday at a convention.  The office of the PUP Secretariat was in the capital, overseeing the process to ensure transparency and a smooth operation.  The final count came in late last night with PUP Chairman making the announcement and conducting the official swearing in.  Prior to the final count last night, Area Representative for Belmopan, Oscar Mira, told Love News that the turnout was pleasantly unexpected.

Oscar Mira, Area Representative, Belmopan: “I think that candidates made work during the day to ensure that they brought out their supporters and you can see them out there. I think it’s a good turnout for us in the People’s United Party. It shows that democracy is alive. We had two candidates vying for mayor and 12 for councilor. Those that we see working hard to ensure that their supporters come out, that’s what democracy is about. Come March we’ll have a team. So starting tomorrow we’ll have our official team because this evening as soon as we finish counting they will be sworn in and the work continues. We’ll ensure that we work very hard for the municipal elections to remain the People’s United Party. This is the People’s United Party. Whoever wins, you know it’s the People’s United Party. That is how I see it. The People’s United Party wins I win and the people of Belmopan win. So we leave it as that. We do have our, you know, when you vote you go and you vote for whoever you feel is the best. But as the area representative for Belmopan yeah we have two very good candidates and they are out here working very hard to ensure that they get their supporters out here. At the end of the day, whoever wins, tomorrow we will have a team that we are going to support fully come March 2024.”

PUP Chairman, Henry Usher, gave the final results last night with Pablo Cawich’s slate coming out successful.  The Cawich slate is a collection of fresh faces to the political arena in Belmopan.

Henry Charles Usher, PUP Chairman: “For the Mayoral race, as I said, we had 1,250 ballots cast. 22 spoiled ballots, a lot of people voted for both candidates, so they couldn’t decide who they wanted to vote for but you could only vote for one. Receiving 557 votes, please a round of applause for Mr. Tariq Cano receiving 557 votes and your mayoral candidate for the March 6, 2024 elections receiving 672 votes. And now the top six who will be your councilor candidates. Lawrence Tush 563. Florita Botes 573 votes. Rodin Santos, 633 votes. Yeah! Chris Enriquez, 662. Coretta Banner, 663 votes and topping the polls Sadi Cano* with 675 votes. And it was a long day but it was a good day for the Peopele’s United Party. Mr.Danny Madrid and his good team that was working all day todayp lease give them  a big round of applause. I also want to thank you the Belmopan voters and all the Belmopan voters who came out today in record numbers here for our convention 1,250 voters cast thier ballot. They showed energy, they showed enthusiasm, they showed their love for the party and they showed that come March 6, 2025 the PUP will once again ——–“
