This past weekend Belmopan Police recovered a vehicle that was reported stolen. We hear more in this report from correspondent Pauline Soberanis Tillett.
“This past Saturday night Belmopan Police recovered a stolen vehicle along with four thousand Euros and a hundred and eighty dollars in Belize currency. The vehicle, a 2016 Toyota Hilux along with the monies was reportedly stolen from the Pesticide Control Board. Police have since arrested Kareem Harvey who was driving the vehicle at the time. Senior Superintendent Gillett tells us more.”
“On Saturday night past, sometime after 10:30pm we were alerted by San Ignacio Police that a robbery had taken place at the Pesticide Control Board which is within their jurisdiction. One of our quick response team immediately set up a checkpoint in the village of Roaring Creek with the assistance of Roaring Creek Police and we were able to retrieve the vehicle. The person who was driving it is in custody. We retrieved all the monies that were stolen in different denominations and we are so happy that we were able to bring closure to this case in such a short space of time. The value of the Toyota Hilux; it’s a 2016, is around seventy five thousand dollars and because of the bravery of our officers, because initially the information was that the person had possessed a gun and our officers without any hesitation immediately proceeded to deal with the incident and because of that, this week Thursday we will take all the officers for lunch. They will be given a certificate for bravery and also for commitment to service so we are very pleased. It is this kind of policing that I want to encourage. That is why, when we have officers doing well, we are quickly reward them.”
