Police in Belmopan have another murder investigation on their hands. A man was shot inside a store in Belmopan this afternoon. Our correspondents, Pauline Tillett and Fem Cruz were at the scene shortly after and spoke with an eyewitness. Here is that story.
Pauline Soberanis Tillet, Cayo Correspondent: Sometime after three o’clock this afternoon 53-year-old Abel Baldarez, store owner of Belen Street in the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan was shot and killed. Love News understands that the deceased was inside the shop when the gunman came in and a struggle ensued where he was shot. He managed to run outside on the street where he fell to the ground. Love News spoke to a friend.
Friend: “He was somebody that he had a problem with nobody. I guess the people that came and shot him they just wanted to steal. Their whole family is a good family.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: When you arrived here tell us what you saw.
Friend: “All that I saw I saw the body covered with a white cloth across the street that’s all I saw.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: The wife of Mr.Abel is not here ?
Friend: “No she’s not here she’s in Guatemala because she’s also sick. She is sick so she’s in Guatemala. The youngest daughter doesn’t want anybody to come close to her. I was trying to get close to her and my other friend but she doesn’t want anybody to get close to her. I guess she’s traumatized about what happened especially if she saw what happened with her dad she’s very traumatized. She doesn’t want anyone to be close to her.”
