Once dubbed “the most boring city in Belize,” Belmopan is undergoing a vibrant transformation and Area Representative Hon. Oscar Mira says that tired label no longer applies. At yesterday’s budget debate, Mira highlighted the city’s continued growth and community-focused development, pointing to the revitalization of George Brown Field as one of the standout achievements. Once a simple recreational space, the field has now become a hub for residents and visitors alike, thanks to its innovative, seasonally themed park installations. From heart-filled Valentine’s backdrops in February to patriotic scenes during September celebrations and festive lights in December, the park’s evolving aesthetic has made it a hotspot for photo ops and social gatherings, attracting people from within Belmopan and surrounding districts. Mira credited the city’s transformation to careful planning and a commitment to making Belmopan not just a political capital, but a cultural and recreational center as well.
With more development projects in the pipeline, including healthcare upgrades and infrastructural improvements, Belmopan is shedding its old reputation and embracing its identity as a growing, lively city.
