Police in Belmopan is searching for one person in relation to the murder of Abel Bardales. Bardales was shot on Friday afternoon following a robbery at his place of work. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Joseph Myvette briefed the media on the preliminary details of the investigation.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “What the police learned so far is that Bardalez was inside his shop when he was visited by two delivery men from a delivery company who were delivering juice. Upon them entering the shop a dark complexioned male armed with a handgun entered and demanded money from those persons and in the process a struggle ensued between the assailant and Bardalez where a shot was discharged hitting Bardalez. The assailant then left the area running and was followed by Bardalez and in the process he turned and fired upon Bardalez a second time causing the fatal injury. We are seeking one suspect in relation to this investigation.”

Reporter: So is this a known suspect ?

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “No he’s not a known suspect to Belmopan police. We are just trying to determine his identity to see if any other formation knows him to be involved in crime.”

Reporter: Did the culprit make off with anything ?

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes but we are not sure what was stolen.”

Reporter: So it was the men from the truck and the shop that were robbed.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes”

Bardales was unarmed while the robbery was in progress, Myvette stated that in situation like these one must keep calm in order to keep the safe.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “It is advisable that if you are not in possession of a weapon to defend yourself that the most convenient thing I would say to have done was to allow the, if there is no way that you can defend yourself out of that allow that person and then you call the police.”

Reporter: What do you mean by allow sir ?

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Meaning that if a robber is pointing a gun at you and you are not in a position to defend yourself because you do not have a gun then you must allow that process in order not to be harmed. If you do not see the opportunity that you can disarm that person then the investigation will be carried on after that once you will have made a report.”
