Belmopan’s City Manager Ralston Frazer has launched his campaign to run for Mayor of that municipality. Frazer told Love News that he is running independently. Here if Cayo Correspondent Fem Cruz with the story.
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: Here at the Palm Center in Belmopan today the former City Administrator Ralston Frazer is launching his campaign as an independent mayoral candidate for the city of Belmopan. Frazer spoke about his campaign and vision for the city.
Ralston Frazer, Belmopan Mayoral Candidate: “I have launched my campaign this morning in pursuit of the seat of Mayor in the March third election this year as an independent candidate. As I have said repeatedly even before today this does not make you anti UDP, this not make you anti PUP this just allows for people who are free thinkers, who are independent minded to be able to step out as a response to, in my case, their call and put ourselves out there so that in this case the people of Belmopan can have an option. An option other than what they are used to, an option of other than what they may be tired of and I am hoping that the people of Belmopan may render their support. I am hoping that the people of Belmopan may see me as worthy for them to hire to lead their city, to lead our city as I lead this city with the people of Belmopan to whom as an independent candidate my first responsibility is – that is to the people of Belmopan. I am thankful for all the support I have been given. I can’t fail to mention my wife and my two children they have been very supportive in this and I continue in this journey in allowing for us to bring Belmopan to the place where it needs to be.”
Ralston Frazer had once been elected as a Belmopan City Councilor; he then moved onto as the city’s Deputy Mayor then as the City Administrator. A few hours after Ralston Frazer officially declared his aspiration to be Belmopan’s next Mayor, former Area Representative John Saldivar took to social media saying that Frazer’s chances of winning are slim to none. The former Parliamentarian who was forced out of the House of Representatives by the Belmopan electorate last November, continued his social media rant by speaking of skeletons in church closet. Saldivaer added, quote, “he (Frazer) has decided to be spiteful and try to hurt the chances of Jackie Burns becoming the first female Mayor of Belmopan. I am making this post because I am tired of ungrateful people, I am tired of people who feel entitled, and I am tired of self-righteous people, especially those who have their own skeletons in their church closet. This post is not endorsed by Jackie Burns, this is John Saldivar standing up for Jackie Burns. Leave Jackie alone. Stop be spiteful.” End of quote.
