Beloved Musician and Super Furia Band Founder Francisco Alcoser Sr. Passes Away at 60

Well-known musician Francisco Alcoser Senior, founder of the Super Furia Band, has died. The sixty-year-old Orange Walk resident passed away on Thursday. Alcoser had been battling colon cancer for the past few months and his health failed despite undergoing chemotherapy. His daughter Roxana Anderson said that Alcoser had remained positive despite the diagnosis in August and throughout his treatment. He died peacefully on Boxing Day, surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and members of his band.

Roxana Anderson, Daughter of Francisco Alcoser: “He battled with the cancer as a true trooper. He took his chemo with a smile and he came out with a smile and he went through it with a smile and a very positive person as he is. So little by little then his health started to deteriorate and it deteriorated but yet he still looked at the positive side and still was listening to the music and keeping up with the band and so that’s what kept him going and it was Christmas, we were having our Christmas dinner, the turkey dinner and he ate a little bit of everything and the ham which he requested. So it was Boxing Day the 26th when he had a go and went to meet his savior. He was among all his children, all his family, all his grandchildren and of course his lovely wife Christina and we all stood next to him and it was a beautiful transition.”

Alcoser’s funeral will be held on Monday, December 30, at La Immaculada Church in Orange Walk Town. His daughter-in-law, Veronica Alcocer says that there will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, where various Belizean artists will perform. She is calling on everyone who wants to honor Alcoser’s memory to attend.

Veronica Alcoser, Daughter in Law of Francisco Alcoser: “We are still processing this. We’re still in shock but we were preparing, we were preparing for his big celebration. Every time we are down we are trying to not to continue but we say you know what he would want this. He didn’t want us to be sad. He wants us to celebrate, he wanted us to be happy because what he leaves behind he knows he has paved the road for his family, for his kids, for the band. He believed that music is a job and music is what had him in the community. The entire town is mourning at this moment and we are happy, we are blessed, we thank the community for approaching us, for reaching us, we acknowledge them and we invite them, invite the entire country to come to Orange Walk on Sunday. Come let’s celebrate, let’s end the year with Mr.Alcoser. He already met his savior, he’s celebrating up there so let’s celebrate for him down here. As he would say “Super Furia to the World !”

Alcoser dedicated his life to music, beginning his career at the age of 19. He formed Super Furia Band thirty years ago and had even used shows from the band to raise money for cancer patients on multiple occasions.
