Below normal Hurricane season expected for 2023

The 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins in less than a month. The 2023 forecast is suggesting that tropical cyclone activity will be above normal in the Atlantic Basin. That means there will be more storm activity than average for the region, including Belize. Chief Meteorologist, Ronald Gordon discussed those prognostications for this week and explained why Belizeans need to be vigilant.

Ronald Gordon, Chief Met Officer: “We’re expecting an El Nino year so to speak whereby we should expect less hurricane activity over the Atlantic Basin but again as I have always reiterated it only takes one storm to hit us or one hurricane for it to be an active season for us. But over all in terms of the entire basin we expect slightly below normal in terms of hurricane activity this year.”
