Municipal slates in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Cayo District are in full campaign mode. Correspondent Elmer Cornejo spoke with aspiring PUP Mayor Jorge Rosales. Here is that report.
Elmer Cornejo, Benque Viejo Correspondent: On February 15 2021 PUP slate led by Jorge Rosales and aspiring councilors were officially nominated. This means a PUP slate will be visible as an option to voters in Benque Viejo del Carmen on election day. We spoke with Jorge Rosales, Mayoral Candidate under the PUP who told us about his experience on the campaign trail.
Jorge Rosales, PUP Benque Mayoral Candidate: “This is my first time I have been doing politics. I got involved in politics because of the abandonment of Benque Viejo and this is why I’m here trying to see if I could alleviate what is happening in Benque. My plan is that we need to work together and try to open up little branches like branches for each person for everybody to dedicate something for Benque Viejo.”
Elmer Cornejo, Benque Viejo Correspondent: Rosales campaigns under the compromise of transparency and innovation.
Correspondent Cornejo also met up with the UDP municipal slate and the aspiring Mayor, Miguel Guerra. Here is that report.
Elmer Cornejo, Benque Viejo Correspondent: Things are just about heating up in the west as March third draws near and a new council is to be elected. UDP’s Miguel Mikey Guerra is leading a new campaign with no campaigners in hopes of satisfying just about enough voters to secure and hold UDP mayoral and councilor candidates in office in Benque Viejo del Carmen on March third. We met Guerra on the campaign trail today joined by his aspiring councilors. Here’s what he had to say.
Miguel Guerra, UDP Benque Viejo Mayoral Candidate: “If you notice I don’t have campaigners. I don’t have the resources first of all. I’m not walking with no political leader I guess I am a leader in this town people know me in Benque. It is important when we talk about Benque or when we talk about people I started on my convention I was asked to close convention an endorsement I didn’t accept. I believe in the people of Benque and the people of Benque believe in Miguel Guerra so I made an open convention. I don’t believe we can talk about people and about town and you don’t give the people the power to decide on which way they want to go. I am not telling you that I am going to win this election I cannot decide it’s the people of Benque that will decide the future of Benque. If I am given the opportunity, God first and the people of Benque I think we can work not on my own. I have promised the people of Benque nothing. If God gives me the opportunity to be the next Mayor of Benque I will work with and for the people of Benque.”
Elmer Cornejo, Benque Viejo Correspondent: Miguel Guerra campaigns under the theme “Putting People First.”
