The bi-annual Belize Tourism Expo (BETEX) will wrap up tomorrow in Belize City after having its official opening last night via a social mixer. The event is held every two years and is spearheaded by the Belize Tourism Industry Association. BETEX is where representatives from various resorts and hotels and other tourism stakeholders come together to showcase their product and services. Inside the SCA Auditorium, there were representatives from Programme for Belize, The Lodge at Chaa Creek, Ocean Ferry, Tropic Air, among others. According to the BTIA’s Executive Director, John Burgos, this event is known for building long lasting business relations with investors and international travel agencies.
While the BTIA is the main organizer of BETEX, the Belize Tourism Board has made a fifty thousand dollar contribution to the event. Aside from that, however, Michelle Flowers of Travel Trade at the BTB, says they do work strategically with the BTIA.
This year’s event is the twelfth of its kind. BETEX was officially launched in 1996 and planned for every two years.
