Last night, there was a shooting at the corner of Pelican and Seagull Streets in Belize City. Fortunately, no one was injured but the incident came only hours after Director of the Leadership Intervention Unit William Dawson passed away. Reports to Love News are that two men with licensed firearms fire the shots to honour Dawson. Police Commissioner Chester Williams was asked about it.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I was briefed of that shooting last night, it actually happened last night and indeed in front of the home of Mr.Dawson and while yes it may have been an act of celebration for the life of Mr.Dawson gun violence or those type of activities were not what Mr.Dawson stood for and I cannot accept that as a legitimate excuse or reason by those who perpetrated that act yesterday. We have not conclusively identified who the perpetrators are, we have suspects and like you rightly said the suspects we are looking at do have licensed firearms. We have retrieved their licensed firearms and we have also found I think nine expended 9mm shells on the scene and those shells have also been collected, their firearms and the shells will be sent to the National Forensics Service for examination and once it determines that it was either of their licensed firearms that discharged those expended shells then such person will be held to account.”
