BNTU President Nadia Caliz-Martin Meets with Ministry of Education Officials

President of the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU), Nadia Caliz-Martin, met with Minister of Education Francis Fonseca and his team yesterday in Belize City. According to Minister Fonseca, the ministry and union discussed several priority issues for the BNTU and its membership. He also said that the parties agreed on the importance of a strong, respectful, frank working partnership between the Ministry of Education and the BNTU. Fonseca was joined by CEO Dian Maheia and Chief Education Officer Yolanda Gongora. This was Caliz’ first meeting with the ministry since being elected president on April 4. Caliz-Martin won the presidency on a platform campaigning for greater job security, better benefits, improved institutional strengthening, and a return to the values that the BNTU was founded upon.
