Out west in the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena, teachers and supporters also gathered for the motorcade protest. Cayo Correspondent Elaine Berry reports.
The objective of the motorcade is for all teachers to come together to protest against the 10% salary cut and increment freeze for three years. Love News spoke to Jorge Mejia the president of the San Ignacio/ Santa Elena branch about the motorcade.
Jorge Mejia, President, San Ignacio/Santa Elena, BNTU Branch: “Today we had a motorcade with approximately seventy vehicles with teachers in the vehicles and the objective of our motorcade today was to show our satisfaction based on how government is dealing with our salary cut and salary freeze. We understand that the country is in a bad situation, our economy needs to grow but for our teachers we know for a fact that there are many other ways that government can implement and can do to reach to their outcome. So teachers at San Ignacio we are here to show our support to whatever we need to do as a country to make it better. So BNTU San Ignacio Branch will be out here if necessary to ensure that our voices are heard.”
