It is expected that leaders of the Belize National Teachers Union and Minister of Education, Patrick Faber, will meet tomorrow to discuss several matters that resulted from the strike action taken by thousands of teachers countrywide. But before both bodies could meet, the question of who will be at the meeting is the current point of contention. Faber does not want the entire council of management to meet because he says that having more than twenty persons in the room is counterproductive. BNTU’s National President, Luke Palacio, is weary of going into a meeting with only a portion of his membership.

The Ministry of Education has also proposed that the BNTU use its strike fund to pay its teachers for the time they were on strike. Palacio says they will not use the union’s strike fund.

Palacio reiterated that it is the Management and teachers who are to decide how time lost will be made up.
