Executive members of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) met with several government officials for the third in a series of budget consultation meetings. The Government is garnering feedback and recommendations from all sectors with the hope of effectively addressing the fiscal deficit. According to the Prime Minister his administration is looking at all recommendations. BNTU’s President Elena Smith gave the media a brief interview on how today’s meeting went.
Elena Smith, President, BNTU: “We know that a lot of our people have not been employed and so they’re not contributing but there are measures that they can take internally from the government and also externally that they can take to be able to do that.”
Reporter: How would describe the atmosphere of the meeting ?
Elena Smith, President, BNTU: “It was very cordial, very respectful. We were able to present our viewpoints and we were able to ask questions and we were able to be honest and open with the discussions.”
