Three men remain missing after they had left home on Friday, November 22 enroute to Mapp Caye.  Investigators and the Belize Coast Guard have been combing the area and today they encountered a vessel bearing bullet holes.  Initially, police believed the vessel to be the one that the trio was traveling in.  It turns out, however, that the vessel is for 48-year-old Evan Neal who also went missing in January 2019.  Love News spoke with Neal’s brother, Mark who says the family is still hopeful for his safe return.

Mark Neal, Brother: “The police did a search on Sunday and they discovered one of the boats, the last one that he had disappeared in and actually they were looking for the three young men who went missing this weekend and thought that was their boat but when they did further inspection it revealed that the boat was the boat my brother disappeared in which the name is Tin. After they retrieved the boat out of the water I think they found several bullet holes in it and a red hat and a glove was inside of it.”

Reporter: What area did you say they found this boat?

Mark Neal, Brother: “This is in Drowning Caye, it’s not far away from Mapp Caye which my brother resided at that caye in that area. Almost a year now since this happened because as you know it happened in January and January coming will make one year since my brother disappeared, we don’t know exactly where he is we’re just hoping that still maybe one day – . You know when we heard the news that they found the boat that was so amazing because we thought that maybe we would have found some remains or something it hurts that you’re trying to get closure and you can’t get closure so  I can imagine these families out there you know looking for their loved ones and can’t find them. Well the police has been doing a tremendous job looking because without them I know we wouldn’t have discovered the boat so I have to give the police their kudos including the Coast Guard as we did search all that area and I’m sure we hadn’t found absolutely anything and we did a lot of search manually on our own and nothing so it’s amazing that we found that and we still have hope that maybe one day we will get closure on my brother. We also want to remind the general public also as well that he had a workman that went missing along with him so I would hope that one day that they will find both of them.”

Reporter: Up to now you still have no idea who would want to hurt your brother?

Mark Neal, Brother: “Well up to now no. Up to now as long as we know according to the police it is pirating in that area and that’s all I can say and I have a feeling it might be the same persons who are doing all of this killing of these gentlemen in that area.”

Evan Neal is the owner of Mapp Caye.  At the time he went missing, the security guard, Edinio Humes, posted at Mapp Caye was found shot to death.
