Members of the Belize Coast Guard stumbled across a human torso in the Caribbean Sea over the weekend. Police are trying to identify the victim but with the state of decomposition and the absence of any visible distinguishing marks have made it difficult to identify. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett says there are no reports of those missing at sea.
ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “We know though that we do not have anyone missing at sea in that area. The body has just been brought on land since this morning and is being taken to the morgue where a post mortem is schedule to be held. The body seemed to have been in the sea for some time now so what was found would not reveal any form of identification or distinguishing marks. This was found somewhere off Whip Ray Caye which would be somewhere in the vicinity of some fifteen miles off the coast of Placencia. There was no clothing on what was found. The portion of the body that was found did not have any clothing or distinguishing marks.”
Reporter: So that is to say that only a portion of the body was found ?
ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes.”
Reporter: Upper ? Lower ?
ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Upper.”
