Police are yet to put a name to the cadaver that was found near Larks’ Caye in late May. The find came shortly after a drug plane seemingly went down a few days before just off the coast of Placencia. Police Commissioner spoke to the media on the suspicion that the body may be the plane’s pilot.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I know that due to the advanced state of decomposition and the fact that it was not the entire body the doctors could not determine either the cause of death nor the identity of the person. We took it to the DNA lab for testing and hopefully we’ll see if we’ll be able to determine but again you would know that when it comes to DNA we required a match, a sample from a person who we want to compare it to so I would like to think that maybe sometime down the road the family of the pilots who may have been in that plane may come forward and report their family member missing and we’ll be able to get sample from whoever and then compare it to what we have received from the boy to see if there is that link between them.”
A post mortem on the body found concluded that the cause of death was multiple blunt force traumatic injuries to the chest and abdominal area. The deceased was in his late forties or early fifties.
