The body of a Belmopan resident was retrieved this morning near an area in Maya Mopan. Cayo Correspondent Fem Cruz has the story.
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: The lifeless body of a Hispanic decent male person was found with blood coming from his nose and mouth late yesterday evening about two and a half miles behind the new Maya Mopan Belmopan Cemetery. The body was later identified as Eli Chan, a 48-year-old resident of St.Joseph Street, San Martin, Belmopan. Chan was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where his body now awaits a post mortem examination. Love News spoke to a family member.
Family Member: “Yes that is when my father-in-law went out on Wednesday morning and after that that’s when we got information from the police that the body was found behind Maya Mopan yesterday where they found that he was bleeding from his nose and he had some bruises on his neck and his face.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: When did he leave ?
Family Member: “He left on Wednesday morning.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: To where ?
Family Member: “His farm. He left to go to his farm and after that that’s when he went missing.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: So you started to search ?
Family Member: “Then that’s when we started to do the search and then that’s when they found him yesterday afternoon like around five.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: Tell us a little bit about your father-in-law, what kind of person was he ?
Family Member: “Well he is a hard working man that I can say because I know him as that. He drinks- well he used to drink and stuff like that but he’s not a trouble man because for the two years that I know him I don’t know him as a trouble man.”
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: What would you want to say to someone out there that maybe could help in this investigation.
Family Member: “Well if they saw anything out there, if they know something to just give the information to the police so they can do their investigation.”
