Body of a Elderly Mexican National Found in the Rio Hondo

The body of an elderly Mexican national was found floating in the Rio Hondo near Santa Cruz Village, Orange Walk District. According to reports the body was fished out by a BDF boat patrol that made the discovery at around eight o’clock this morning. Police Public Relations, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood says that police have since identified the man. Videos sent to our newsroom indicate that the man’s head was severed. ASP Yearwood says investigators believe that he may have been attacked by a crocodile.

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations Officer, Belize Police Department: “We can say that the body from Santa Cruz have been identified by his relatives. A 66-year-old was recovered from the Santa Cruz River. They were looking for him for a while because they said a few days ago he was supposed to go back to Mexico and after not receiving word that he had arrived they began searching for him. Today they found him like you rightfully said with injuries that would be conducive with some form of attack from maybe a crocodile.”

Police are looking to notify the man’s family members prior to releasing his name.
