Also this evening, authorities are trying to identify the body of a man that was found in the sea in near an area of St George’s Caye in an advanced state of composition. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Alejandro Cowo, police are hoping that the man’s family identifies him.
Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “Yesterday at about 2pm police received a video and also information of a body floating between St.George’s Caye and Coffee Caye which is about two and a half miles east of Belize City. Police along with Coast Guard proceeded to that location and it was until about 5pm that they discovered the body of a male person floating inside of the sea. The body was retrieved and police were able to observe that it had apparently chop wounds to the hand and to the right hand. We have managed to speak to some persons where one of them had mentioned a name but we are awaiting for family members to confirm if indeed that is the person.”
The John Doe remains at the National Forensic Science Services’ Morgue.
