Boledo and Sunday Lottery Draws Return After Seven-Month Hiatus: Avid Players Excited for the Comeback

After a seven month hiatus the Boledo and Sunday Lottery draws have returned.  For the non-gambler, it is a blip on their radar, but for the avid buyer, the return of the game is an exciting thing to look forward to.  We join Reporter Kendra Romero for the story.

Kendra Romero, Love News: The country’s favorite past time is back on Sunday when these balls start spinning Belizeans all over the country will be holding their breath to see if their prediction was right. Boledo fanatics are in for a treat come Sunday, as the lottery draw returns.  It has long been considered a favorite past time for Belizeans, and a staple in the long list of traditions in the country.  When the multi-pick machine boots up on Sunday, it will mark the first lottery draw since the end of April when the government pushed pause on the Boledo and lottery.  Many have taken to social media, clamoring for its return, and now that ticket sales have begun, many are beyond excited.

Citizen: “I’m glad for it because a lot of poor people benefit off of the Boledo. They win their little number some of them you know that little money comes in handy to pay their water, their light bill or finish buy what they have to buy.”

Citizen: “I think it is good because I feel like most Belizeans look forward to it. That’s their source of revenue some people and I guess it’s a favorite past time you know so I think in all honesty I think it’s good that it’s coming back. Let’s hope that it’s gonna be better since it’s supposedly under new management hopefully they offer more prizes. There are a lot of Caribbean people they are hooked on that you know ? That’s their favorite past time and how some of them earn some money.”

Kendra Romero, Love News: Beside the excitement in this local gambling endeavor, many have made it a way of life.  As a matter of fact, according to some, the Boledo and Sunday lottery were a means to put food on the table.

Citizen: “For the people that don’t have a steady income that are depending on it man it’s great. Give those people what their due so they can start to win some money. Christmas is here.”

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Any lucky number in your mind ?

Citizen: “Well 0-2.”

Citizen: “It feels good. The people feel much better.”

Citizen: “Man I feel good. I feel glad and the Boledo is coming back again. I love it and then when you invest one dollar you are winning seventy I’m good because it’s close to Christmas to buy your turkey ham and cake and the ham and the turkey too.”

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Any lucky number in your mind ?

Citizen: “Well the lucky number when it left it was left at 55 so we’ll start it at 55 again.”

Citizen: “I think that it’s a good thing that it’s coming back.”

Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Any luck number in your mind ?

Citizen: “Ah, 44 will play.”

Kendra Romero, Love News: Interestingly, Boledo enthusiasts have a special group on Facebook, where they make predictions, and interpret dreams into boledo rake.  It is somewhat of an online version on King Tut Dreambook.  Many are now making their lucky pick by purchasing their lottery tickets for Sunday.

Citizen: “I will buy 74 and the reason being that was my dad’s number. My dad was a police man and his number was 174 and he was a lottery and Boledo player and that was the number he bought. He bought that everyday so we know whenever 74 plays my dad wins and we would get a treat.”

Citizen: “I’m glad that it’s back, that the government made sure that it’s back for the people. So you know December is here right ? Today is the first actually so the third we shall see. 55, 45, 00 of course.”

Citizen: “Well I feel very happy for some people they told you that once they win that’s their extra cash.”

Kendra Romero, Love News: The first draw of the revamped Boledo and Lottery systems will be on Sunday morning at ten o’clock.  It will be carried LIVE on Love FM.  Reporting for Love News, I am Kendra Romero.
