Bones found on San Pedro sent for testing

There have been cases where people have reported relatives who went missing after taking a boat to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye to find work. There were infamous cases where the Belize Coastguard had close encounters with armed men on the northern part of Ambergris Caye.  In the past decade, the north end of the island and its close distance to Mexico, made it a perfect spot for wet-drops from narco-traffickers who find it easier to drop their load rather than land in the Progresso Area of the Corozal District.  It is unclear exactly what was found, but the police were responding to reports of bones on the ground 13 miles north of San Pedro Town. The bones have been sent for analysis. The remains were found in a busy area this week and Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino of the Crimes Investigation Branch addressed the matter at a police briefing today.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino: “Somewhere 13 miles North off the coast of San Pedro Police discovered what appeared to be bones and those have been retained and they will be forwarded for testing.”

Reporter: “Has it been confirmed that the bones are human remains?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino: “We do not know if they are human or animal remains so they are being sent for testing.”
