Up to three o’clock yesterday evening, the Ministry of Health has conducted two thousand one hundred and one tests for Covid-19.  Of that amount Belize has only had twenty-three positive results.  Twenty-one persons are currently under investigation, meaning that they are in quarantine or may displaying symptoms of the virus.   There are currently three active active cases of Covid-19 in the country as the fourth active patient was deported to Guatemala.  Since March 22 when the first confirmed case, two persons have died of the virus while seventeen have recovered.  According to the Director of Health Services, Dr Marvin Manzanero, the three patients who are positive for Covid-19 are expected to make a recovery soon.  As it relates to the quarantine aspect and the border jumpers, we learned that a few are at the Belize Central Prison.  Love News spoke with the prison’s CEO, Virgilio Murillo.

Virgilio Murillo, CEO, Kolby Foundation: ” I know we had two and I’m not too sure that twenty one days has elapsed yet.”

Courtney Menzies, Love FM News: When you bring those people in do you continue the quarantine process here even though they test negative?

Virgilio Murillo, CEO, Kolby Foundation: ” Absolutely. Absolutely I guess you came just now and you yourself went through the COVID-19 screening process. We’re not compromising that and what I can tell you is happening right now even when they bring these people normally if they have any symptoms of COVID I think they’re normally isolated on the outside and a paper is brought to the prison to prove that they’ve been isolated and they don’t have COVID so those ones are okay but for what I have here definitely we  isolate them. Thank goodness we have not had any situation where we’ve had to literally quarantine anybody it’s pretty much strictly isolation right now.”

Love News also spoke with Police Commissoner Chester Williams who indicated that several of the persons who escaped from quarantine are still on the run.
