The Belize Peace Movement (BPM) has called for annual reports to be presented from the Elections & Boundaries Commission. On August 3, the BPM wrote to the Elections and Boundaries Commission through registered mail, seeking access to the Commission’s annual reports for the period 2016-2019. According to the Chairman of the BPM, Robert Lopez, it has been fourteen days since they requested these documents and they are yet to get a response. Lopez went on to say that before requesting the documents they had asked the Governor General’s office, but they were referred to the Elections and Boundaries Commission.
In a press release the BPM stated, quote, “The Belize PEACE Movement remains committed in its vigilance to ensure accountability from those who are responsible to uphold the laws and comply with all regulations to uphold the fundamental tenets ascribed to good governance.” end of quote. Love News reached out to the recently appointed Commission Chairman, Estevan Perera. He declined an interview but did note that the letter was receibed and that the Commission is looking to see the reports exist. Perera says they will be issuing a release shortly.
