BPP Calls for Redistricting Completion Ahead of 2025 Elections

The Belize Progressive Party (BPP) is demanding the redistricting exercise be completed before the 2025 general elections. Last year, the Redistricting Task Force, Chaired by Chief Elections Officer Josephine Tamai, presented drafts to the Belize PEACE Movement, the litigants in the matter. However, the group rejected the proposal and stated that the government needed to go back to the drawing board. Today, BPP representative Robert Lopez called into The Morning Show and stated that he believes the government is dragging its feet.

Lopez added that while the exercise seeks to make Belize’s electoral divisions more proportional as required by the constitution, the proposed report did not satisfy concerns raised by the BPP and BPM.

The government began the process after an order was issued by the High Court and prompted by the Belize Peace Movement.
