A brawl broke out at JR’s bar in Punta Gorda on Saturday night, mere steps away from the town police station. What began as a dispute between a patron and a staff member quickly spiraled into a violent altercation involving multiple individuals and a barrage of flying bottles. Our newsroom has come to understand that the incident started when a male patron got into a heated argument with one of the women working behind the bar. The situation escalated when the man allegedly grabbed the woman’s arm, prompting her to defend herself by throwing an object at him. This act ignited a full-blown melee, with patrons and staff joining the fray. The brawl left the bar in disarray, with shattered glass and debris scattered across the premises. Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams expressed his stance on revoking the bar’s liquor license.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Just told the legal officer this morning in conference to write the Toledo Liquor Licensing Board and seek to have the license suspended.”
Several individuals sustained minor injuries, but no serious injuries have been reported so far. As of now, one man has been detained in connection with the altercation. Investigation is ongoing.
