Breakthrough in Cabbie Murders: Two Charged for Hattieville Killings

Investigators have made a breakthrough in the murders of cousins, Marvin Cante and Juan Raymundo. On November 27, the cab drivers lost contact with their family members after leaving their homes in Belmopan en route to Belize City. And, on the following day, the SUV they were in was found abounded near mile 25 on the George Price Highway. Police had launched an intense search, and on December 11, their decomposing bodies were discovered in a shallow grave in Hattieville Village with chop wounds. While a motive is yet to be ascertained, this weekend, police arrested two men for the gruesome murders. On Saturday, police charged 21-year-old Karl Lindo and 21-year-old Christopher Smith with two counts of murder each. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided more details.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “The information we have is that they came to the Hattieville area to do a transaction and something went wrong there and they were taken into those bushes and killed.”

Reporter: Are the accused known to police with respect to the sale of drugs or any other illegal use?

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “Yes, they are known to police. That’s the only information we have. They came to do a transaction with these persons and then they were held up and taken to that area.”
