Briceno: BIL’s Negligence has caused Millions in Loss to Public Purse

The leader of the Opposition, John Briceno, says that Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber has yet to answer a letter he sent two weeks ago. The letter is with respect to Belize Infrastructure Limited, BIL, which is Co-Chaired by Minister Faber. In his letter, Briceno writes quote, “Recent revelations suggested that through its negligence, millions of dollars in loss to the public has occurred on the Lake Independence Boulevard Project. Our information suggests that other works have also been completed under BIL’s supervision with poor design, lack of proper execution with the result that more loss has been suffered by the public purse.” End of quote. It is with this in mind that Briceno is demanding that he be provided with documents such as copies of all audited accounts of BIL, a list of all projects supervised and or financed by BIL, names of all companies or persons who were contracted by BIL and copies of all contracts. The Leader of the Opposition is also demanding that a list of the names and positions held by all employees of BIL be provided. Briceno expected a response in seven days but two weeks have passed. According to Briceno, Minister Faber has not even acknowledged receipt of the letter.
