PUP DEMONSTRATION

Briceno says the media is always welcomed

It is no secret that the media is not respected by many politicians and even by some public officers including law enforcement.  Over the past few weeks, you have seen the ways in which the media has been mishandled in the process of doing their job.

It is no secret that the media is not respected by many politicians and even by some public officers including law enforcement.  Over the past few weeks, you have seen the ways in which the media has been mishandled in the process of doing their job.  Today PUP leader John Briceno stated that it is the party’s policy to welcome the media into any matter. According to Briceno, this policy will continue if they are elected into power.

Hon. John Briceno, Opposition Leader, People’s United Party: “If you have seen for some time that whenever we invite you to a press conference we do not stop up our rooms with political supporters or PUP shirts and screaming and shouting at anybody, we discourage that. You are our guests and as such we need to treat you as guests. So our policy has always been that we try to, if any supporter wants to come they could sit and listen respectfully and do not interfere with the media. You all are doing your jobs and we need to respect that.”

Reporter: What about ensuring that when the government is in crisis situation it promises and commits that it’s going to be open and hold press conferences to address these issues rather than do what this current government is doing and running away from the people and doing prerecorded statements.

Hon. John Briceno, Opposition Leader, People’s United Party: “Well I’m not sure how we could legislate that. I could tell you that that is our policy and we expect to continue with that policy right through.”

John Briceno noted that he is unsure on how that could be legislated but is sure the party will follow its policy.
