Brooklyn Declares April 25 as “Shyne Day”

April 25 has officially been designated as “Shyne Day” in Brooklyn, New York, in honor of Belizean artist and politician Moses “Shyne” Barrow.  It is an honor bestowed on Belizean rapper-turned-politician Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow for his contributions to music, public service, and youth empowerment.  The proclamation was issued by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso during a special event held in East Flatbush, where Barrow was also presented with the Key to Brooklyn, one of the borough’s highest civic honors.  The recognition came as part of the East Flatbush Young Men’s Mentorship Expo, which also featured New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and community leaders. The event focused on uplifting young men through mentorship, guidance, and practical support, including the distribution of suits to help them prepare for job interviews.  Barrow, who has deep ties to Brooklyn, described the recognition as both humbling and emotional, calling the borough his second home. In his message, Barrow emphasized resilience and perseverance, encouraging youth to remain focused on their goals despite challenges, and reminding them that their stories of struggle can become stories of triumph.
