Brother of Murdered Teen Remanded for Gang Affiliation

Nineteen-year-old Daniel Tillett, brother of the recently murdered Gabriel Tillett, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison for gang affiliation. Tillett appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with a single count of being a member of a gang. He stands accused of being a member of the Jerusalem Bone Yard Crips, (JBYC). At his arraignment before Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola, Tillett pleaded not guilty and asked to address the court. Tillett claimed that it was he who found his brother’s body at the Lord Ridge Cemetery on Tuesday July 4, and that’s why police charged him with gang affiliation. The Chief Magistrate explained that Tillett could not receive bail before 90 days, and he was remanded until September 13.
