The Belize Sugar industry (BSI) has stopped the grinding of sugar cane due to the heavy rains from over the weekend making the process challenging. According to BSI the decision was taken after consulting with the Sugar Cane Farmers Association and the Sugar Cane Production Committee. The initial decision was to stop accepting cane on Tuesday June 2 at 6 am however they continued accepting sugar cane past 6 am. Love News spoke with William Neal, Communications and Gov’t Affairs Officer for BSI, who explained to us how the heavy rains affect the sugar mill.
