BTB Hosts First-Ever Tourism Security Summit to Address Safety Concerns Amid Record-Breaking Season

It may have gone under the radar, but over sixty tourism stakeholders participated in the first-ever Tourism Security Summit, recently hosted by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB). The summit was held to discuss security concerns of stakeholders from around the country with a view ensure visitors are safe. Herman Blease Sr. Security Specialist, with the BTB, said that the summit was necessary as security risks are a concern given the projection for a record-breaking tourism season.

Blease noted that major safety mishaps occurred in tourism this year including a drowning and someone losing their leg during a shark attack. With that in mind, the Ministry of Tourism has been taking an increased focus on safety.

The summit was held on Friday, November 29. Blease said that the BTB is reaching out to regional partners in an effort to host a regional tourism security summit sometime next year.
