BTL being Sued by Past Employees

Belize Telemedia Limited is being sued by several former employees, as much as a couple of dozen, who are claiming that the company failed to pay them severance. The matter is being heard by Supreme Court Justice Lisa Shoman and today the case of Oscar Gongora was presented by his attorney, Darrell Bradley while BTL is being represented by Melissa Balderamos-Mahler and assisted by Senior Counsel Andrew Marshalleck. The matter goes back decades ago to an agreement reached by the union. The hearing was held virtually and we understand that former employees say that BTL owes them severance. BTL’s position is that a pension scheme was formed that would be matched by the company and that before the scheme was implemented, the employees at the time were paid severance. BTL says that the severance is being paid through the scheme. The hearing continues tomorrow.
